Introduction
Málaga is a port city in Andalucia, southern Spain, on the Costa del Sol coast of the Mediterranean. (36°43' N 4°25' W) Málaga is the capital of the Spanish province of the same name. Population of the city of Málaga proper was 547,000 as of 2003 estimates . Population of the urban area was 814,000 as of 2005 estimates. Population of the metropolitan area (urban area plus satellite towns) was 1,019,000 as of 2003 estimates, ranking as the fifth largest metropolitan area in Spain. Malaga is surrounded by mountains, and two rivers, the Guadalmedina and the Guadalhorce, flow near the city into the Mediterranean. The inner city of Málaga is just behind the harbour. The quarters of El Perchel, La Trinidad and Lagunillas surround this centre. The city has much revenue from the agricultural sector and from tourism. The painter Pablo Picasso, the 19th-century Spanish politician Antonio Canovas del Castillo, and the actor Antonio Banderas were born in Málaga. The Cathedral in Malaga The Cathedral is itself an interesting mix of architectural styles (mainly renaissance & baroque) resulting from the 200 or so years it took to construct. It is built on the site of the Alijama Mosque, once the largest place of Muslim worship in the area; though deemed too small for Christian worship by Malaga's Catholic rulers. The Cathedral's interior is now home to many artistic treasures; including beautiful representations of the Virgin by various artists, wood carvings & more. Furthermore the old chapter house has been converted into a museum, housing yet more paintings & sculptures.,
